Golden Antenna to Haiti

 

The worst earthquake in the history of the American continent sought on 12 January Haiti home of some 300,000 people lost their lives, as many were injured. The failure of the telephone network and the congestion of satellite phones in addition to rescue operations difficult. This gap is filled amateur radio, most notably Jean-Robert Gaillard.
The 57-year-old informed not only the outside world about events in and around the capital Port-au-Prince, but also sent requests from people who wanted to bring the fate of their relatives in the Caribbean state in experience. Moreover, he coordinated assistance and began to build up a ham radio network in southern Haiti, which he continues today.
Because he earned not only the international communications made but stood up well under extreme conditions of humanity, drew the town of Bad Bentheim, Jean-Robert Gaillard yesterday in the German-Dutch Amateur Radio Days (DNAT) with the "Golden Antenna" from .
After a brief word from the chairman, Dr. Volker DNAT Frey praised the deputy mayor of Bad Bentheim, Christel Somberg, the award recipient as a "prime example of an amateur radio operator". Gaillard go in using for his fellow man no effort from the road.

Visibly moved, the winners thanked the debate for the award and described in a moving speech, the events in Haiti on 12 January from his perspective. Silence reigned in the up to the last seat filled St. Catherine Church, as Gaillard told how he went shortly after the quake to the business district of the capital and saw hundreds of corpses. "I heard at 200 dead counting. I can not describe the feeling when one is unable to help, "he said in a trembling voice.
It was followed by further descriptions of the misery, but also the bright spots, which he had experienced during the disaster. Finally, Gaillard stressed the important role of radio amateurs in the relief efforts in Haiti and called for his country not to be forgotten in the face of other disasters:

"Haiti still needs help!"

Everything One Needs to Know About Planting

On planting a tree.

When planting a tree it is important that a large amount research is undertaken. Apart from the plant itself you will require a shovel, a spade, a rake and the optional services of a hoe. You will also need a comfortable chair (reclining is best) a packet of snacks and a nice bottle of your favourite wine.
Start by positioning the tree, shovel, spade, rake and optional hoe in the garden close to the planting site. This will give a clear indication to all interested parties that you intend to plant something soon. Very soon. Next you should consider the location and installation of your chair. The chair should be in a spot which affords a good view of the planting site. This spot could be indoors or out. During inclement or cool weather a comfortable chair, set up inside the glasshouse or the patio door, can provide a panoramic view of the garden. In dry or pleasant weather a chair on the lawn or decking is a most pleasant place from which to conduct research.

Only when you have opened the wine and the snacks should you install your self in your chair. Thus seated it is time to begin your research proper. Start by tasting the snacks. They should be fresh and of consistent quality. As every good researcher knows testing snacks sometimes means consuming the entire product and often more than one packet.

Testing the quality of the wine is a slow and deliberate matter. The wine you pick to test is entirely up to you. Start this process by pouring a liberal amount of wine into an appropriate glass. Then hold the glass of wine up to the light. This will confirm your choice. If you have picked red then the liquid in the glass will shine with a red glow. As you would expect if you select a white it will not. As every good researcher knows testing wine sometimes means consuming the entire product and often more than one bottle. Alternating wine and snacks can provide sustenance for long research projects.

The holding up of the glass is very important and should be repeated periodically. This exorcise will do two things. First it will confirm that the red wine is still red and the white is not. Secondly by raising your arm in this way it indicates your fitness to continue the research. It may also provide you with a good idea from which direction the sun shines. As the sun has a tendency to shift its position in the sky it is important that you observe this. Observation is the basis of all good research. Over time you will see the effect the sunlight has on the planting site. As the sun and wine goes down it will be revelled to you how shaded or sunny the planting site is. You then can decide if the site is good for your plant. A plant which you will plant soon. Very soon.

There is always a danger that during your research project a well intending spouse or friend will appear. Not being aware of your research they will insist on digging a hole and planting the plant on your behalf. Let them. Why not! Just remind them to return the shovel, spade and rake to the shed. Oh and don’t forget the optional hoe.

Flock-Air Expands in EI

Good morning people.

Just to let you know that Flock-Air has just extended our wings to three new airports of the West coast of Ireland. These airports have never been flown to before by anyone EVER, and Flock-Air now has the ability to be able to do this.

Please note!!!!

These airports have NO ILS, they are holiday resorts and there is no security. Two of the airports you need to exercise caution when landing as both of the landings are situated in bad locations. Inisheer and Innishmore have short landings, about 500ft long, with dangerous rock each end. And to add salt to the wound, if you mess it up bad enough not only will you tare the underside from your aircraft with the rocks you will be going for a swim. So make sure your passengers have there life jackets! HA.

So with these three airports we now have another 77 flights in and out of Ireland.

Circus Brazil in Ballinrobe

What a night, Myself and the family went to the circus yesterday. It was a two ring circus and run by a very interesting and talented family. Mum Dad and there kids run this hole show by themselves from the setup to finish these guy’s are dedicated entertainers with talent bursting out from all angles.

  Circus Brazil offers a very entertaining afternoon aimed at adults, teens and children. They bring the audience to the ring taking part in stunts which the younger viewers find amazing.

 

The two clowns “Sausage and Sauce-Pan” brought 4 lads down to to the ring to take part in a stunt where they made us lean back on each other and when asked we lifted our backsides from the silver stools and they were removed from under us. Audience

 

The brothers gave us non-stop displays of balance, strength and trust.

 

 

     

If your in the Shrule area on Monday or Tuesday i would encourage you to visit the circus, its well worth the look for all ages, Tickets are in the €8-12 price range and concessions can be got in the local business in the town.

Ballinrobe v Partry

Ballinrobe Town AFC played away today against Partry Athletic on there grounds behind the church in Partry. The weather was perfect, the crowd were amazing and the game was tense.

Ten minutes to finish Ballinrobe’s John Fitzpatrick scoring the equalizer for there game today against Partry, and then less than two minutes later another goal by JP O Gorman giving Ballinrobe the lead and the win in Partry.
