Example of bad brakes

You can take a small torch and peek into the area where the brake disks are, one photo shows a nice shiny disk while the other shows signs of major damage.

Washing Machine: Clearing the pump

  1. Turn off the power, I cannot stress how important this is.
  2. Disconnect the plug from the mains.
  3. Remove the mains plug from the wall. Now that you have done this we can begin

2013-08-31 12.22.04

Tilt the washing maching on the side oppisite to the pump still giving you room to work. Endure the machine is on a surface that is not slippy. If the tiles of floor allows the machine to slide easily, place a damp towl unserneath the contact points of the machine to the ground.

2013-08-31 12.22.57

Remove the secure screws that hold in the pump

2013-08-31 12.24.17

Remove the wiring loom, (Don’t Break it, be nice)

2013-08-31 12.24.38

Drop down the pump.

2013-08-31 12.25.20Hold over empty basin to ensure the (wife/what ever you like to call her) does not bloody kill you for making a mess of the floor.!

 2013-08-31 12.27.20

2013-08-31 12.27.32Unscrew and allow to drain excess water out

2013-08-31 12.25.48

Now I will make this picture bigger, I am not liking this, there is rust or more specifically copper rust, this can really mean only one thing, I am about to hit the jackpot, Payday, man its time to retire!!!!!
You see the hole at the rear of the pump where the fins are, there is going to be copper coins inside that void. You will need to shake the pump a bit and point the hole down to release the coins.

 2013-08-31 12.26.51 Ahhh Haaaa!

 2013-08-31 12.32.22 Chick-ching!!!

Now reassemble everything in reverse because I am not going to hold your hand and do it for you, mainly because I cut mine!

 2013-09-12 19.43.59

!!Feckin Ouch!!!

ei1429 out!

[Astronomy Ireland] 'Discovering the God Particle'

1.  Public Lecture: Discovering the God Particle

In July of this year a team of scientists at CERN - led by Professor Rolf Heuer who gave Astronomy Ireland's Public Lecture the same month - announced the discovery of a new particle, which was widely believed to be the long-sought Higgs Boson.

In light of the immense public interest in the Higgs Boson in Ireland at that time, our October Public Lecture will be delivered by Dr Cormac O'Raifeartaigh who will explain what the Large Hadron Collider is, how the Higgs Boson was discovered, and what it means for our understanding of the Universe.

With the start of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, particle physics entered a new era. The LHC will provide a deeper understanding of the universe and the insights gained could change our view of the world. The LHC is expected to yield insights into the nature of dark matter and the existence of hidden extra dimensions.

The lecture, The Higgs Boson will take place on Monday, October 8th, at 8pm in Trinity College Dublin, and people are invited to bring friends and family. Tickets and DVDs of this lecture can be booked online at www.astronomy.ie or by calling (01) 890 11 11.

2.  Sun Show on Saturday

Each Saturday from 1pm we will hold a Sun Show at the Astronomy Ireland Shop, allowing the general public to view the Sun in safety to see magnificent solar flares and planet-sized sunspots. This is an excellent opportunity to try out some daytime astronomy with the help of experienced astronomers. Get more information on the Sun Shows HERE.
