Weekend in Drogheda

Well before i set out to Drogheda i went over to Tesco in Ballinrobe to get a few bits and pieces for the troops while i was away. Myself and Jack were the first customers to walk on the car park. It was impossible to see where the car park spaces were!

After about fifty mugs of coffee and an educated chat with my neice Jessica about Hanny Many, myself and Mark went out to his car and spent about an hour defrosting it, it was time for another coffee (OHH-YEAA!) only then was it time to get on the road.

We had to go as far as the Garda station to get some forms signed, something to do with HAVING NO TAX SINCE 1995! HA!!! My brother is about the only person to have a 95 Reg car with 70,000 miles on the clock. He bought it from my grandad who just went to mass and the shop in it.

The new disk goes in! Now your legal Bro! €170 a year! WHAT???

The drive home was a pain in the backside, was hypnotized by the snow. But it was ok.

Look at that, "a real fire" Ohh Yeaaa, just what you want, Cheers Thos! Me toes were cookin!

No way to cross

Jeasus its been a while since i have been in Drogheda, and too my surprise it has changed for the better, the main street looks well and the town looks clean in general. But to my amazement i found it difficult to cross the section of road between the back of the town center and the multi-story car park? why? there is a bloody barrier in the way? now what genius put that there?

Radio Stuff

Ian Morris Memorial Trophy

The South Dublin Radio Club, in honour of the late Ian Morris

EI6U, donated the trophy to the Society.

Ian was a member of the committee of the Society for many

years and was a very proficient CW, Field Day and contest

operator.

The trophy is awarded to the shortwave listener with the highest

number of DXCC entities heard in the previous year. The

trophy was first awarded in 1989 to David Burt EI982.

It was presented to Brendan Nutley EI1129 at the 2009 AGM

in Athlone. (Picture below)

Backseat Driver in Castlebar A&E

I Just "overheard" an interesting story involving Castlebar hospital A & E, an Gardi and a fella in a white Merc, From what i understand. . . The fella in the Merc was spotted by the Gardi proberly driving badly or something, as you do!, when the fella in the car spotted the gardi "eye-balling" him he took off like the hammers!

in the direction of westport. When he came to the junction next to the fire station in castlebar he turned for the Gardi Station, then proceeded left into the hospital. Now. . . time went by and the Gardi decided they were going to "Lift" the car, so the IDIOT got into the back seet of the Merc and locked the doors while parked outside the hospital A&E.

The Gardi "Rang Home" to get the proper procedure for dealing with the situation, but i think in my opnion they should have just lifted the car and the occupant, regardless of him being inside the car or not. Not only was he done for dangerous driving, the dope had No Tax, No Insurence and no NCT, and i am willing to bet he had no licence! HA!

So there you go another interesting story from the West!

This Little Robin calls to my garden every morning, but today was very unusual as he seemed to be posing for the camera. Normally he will disappear the minute i open the back door of the house, which means i am forced to take photos from behind the glass lying on the floor of the kitchen or sitting across the kitchen sink in some very compromising positions! But as i said today was strange, when i came out the door to put the rubbish in the bin, he just sat there, staring at me, with not a care in the world? So i edged into the kitchen and quickly grabed the camera and the 300 lense, edged my way out the door and like a sniper from a war film i got into position. But this is where it got strange, he came closer and closer by the minute, and by the time 20minutes passed i had to change the lens back to the 18-55mm lens. The 300mm lense could not focus closer than 5 feet! A fantastic shoot. Rely enjoyed it.
